A man who barricaded himself inside a Meridian home Monday afternoon has died, according to the Ada County Coroner’s Office.

Meridian police arrived at a residence in the 1400 block of West Loretta to arrest 43-year-old Derek Thayer, who had multiple warrants. Thayer barricaded himself inside and didn’t comply with officers’ commands, police said in a Tuesday news release.

Police called in the department’s Special Tactics Group and closed part of Loretta Street temporarily. Thayer was inside for several hours; when police finally entered the home, they found him unresponsive, the release said.

Thayer received medical attention and was taken to the hospital, according to the release. Police said Tuesday that Thayer would be booked into the Ada County Jail once he was medically cleared. He was pronounced dead on Wednesday at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Meridian, according to the coroner.

Both the cause and manner of death were listed as pending.

Earlier this week, Meridian police spokesperson Jordan Robinson told the Statesman that Thayer “was unconscious when we found him due to a medical issue.”
