Meridian police find suspect unresponsive after lengthy standoff at home
Police took a man into custody following a standoff at a Meridian home on Monday afternoon.
Officers went to a home in the 1400 block of West Loretta Street to arrest a 43-year-old man who was wanted on three warrants, the Meridian Police Department said in a Tuesday news release.
Police said the suspect “refused to comply with officers’ commands and barricaded himself inside a residence.” The department then called in its Special Tactics Group to assist.
“After several hours attempting to get (the suspect) to surrender peacefully, members of STG ultimately made entry into the residence and located (the suspect), who was unresponsive,” the police said. “He was provided with immediate medical attention and transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.”
Meridian police spokesperson Jordan Robinson told the Idaho Statesman by email that the suspect “was unconscious when we found him due to a medical issue.”
Law enforcement closed West Loretta Street between North Linder Avenue and Molly Way North for multiple hours while officers managed the situation. The Boise Police Department’s Special Operations Unit and Ada County Paramedics assisted at the scene.
Officers were seeking to arrest the man for felony probation violation, felony grand theft and burglary, as well as a misdemeanor for failure to appear.
Police said he will be booked into the Ada County Jail on these warrants once he is medically cleared.
