A 58-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of multiple charges in Caldwell after a “road rage” incident led to a shooting.

Anthony Taylor was arrested and booked into the Canyon County Jail on several charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, eluding an officer, possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia with the intent to use, according to a news release from the Caldwell Police Department and jail records.

At 7 p.m. Thursday, Caldwell officers were called to locate Taylor’s vehicle after police alleged he was “closely” following a male driver’s vehicle and fired two shots at the unidentified victim near Memorial Park. The man did not get shot, police said.

Before Taylor fired his gun, the male victim noticed Taylor was following him, and he stopped his vehicle near Memorial Park, in Caldwell, when Taylor got out of the car and shot at him, police said. Taylor then got back into his car and tried to drive away.

After a failed traffic stop, officers were able to arrest Taylor following a short pursuit without any force near the intersection of Parkhurst Drive and Sunset Avenue, according to the news release. A “loaded firearm” was recovered, police said.

“Despite the frigid temperatures this evening, our men and women were conducting proactive police work and saved lives tonight,” Caldwell Police Chief Rex Ingram said in the news release. “Mr. Taylor will be held accountable for his actions and we will ensure the justice system does not fail our community.”
