Caldwell police arrest man on drug charges, seize 1,500 fentanyl pills
After a yearlong investigation, the Caldwell Police Department arrested a 54-year-old man on multiple drug charges after authorities recovered approximately 1,500 fentanyl pills, according to a news release from the agency.
The man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver, drug trafficking, possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm as a convicted felon, possession of a controlled substance, frequenting a place drugs are used and paraphernalia with the intent to use, according to online jail records. He is in custody at the Canyon County Jail, records showed.
“This is a reminder that our fight against drugs in our community is far from over, and we will never allow cartels to control our streets,” Caldwell Police Chief Rex Ingram said in the news release.
Early Monday, the Caldwell Police Department’s SWAT team searched a home in the 5000 block of Ormsby Avenue — called a suspected drug “stash house” — after obtaining a search warrant, according to the news release.
Aside from the fentanyl pills, authorities said they recovered 4 pounds of crystal meth, hallucinogenic mushrooms, two “illegally possessed firearms,” ammunition, paraphernalia and other evidence “commonly associated with trafficking narcotics,” according to the release. Police also seized $3,500.
The man was arrested “peacefully” and “without incident,” police said.
“I am so proud of the men and women who conducted this outstanding investigation, which led to the execution of this warrant today,” Ingram said. “The professionals that made this operation successful are the epitome of sharpness, courage, honor, and sacrifice.”
