A 23-year-old Boise man was arrested after he allegedly shot and killed a 20-year-old woman, police said.

Alfonso Emmanuel “Junior Gamboa” Leon was arrested Monday by the Garden City Police Department on suspicion of murder in the first degree, according to a news release from the Nampa Police Department and online jail records.

At 7:09 a.m. Sunday, Nampa Dispatch received a call about a reported shooting at a residence in the 80 block of South Drifter Loop. Police said they found a woman with a gunshot wound. The woman, who was later identified by the Ada County Coroner’s Office as Julie Isabel Martinez, was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

Martinez, of Buhl, Idaho, was pronounced dead at 7:58 a.m. Sunday in the emergency room of Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, according to the news release from the coroner’s office.

Gamboa was in the Ada County Jail on Tuesday, according to online jail records.

A fundraiser has been created for Martinez to help her daughter and father, according to the GoFundMe page. More than $4,000 had been raised by Tuesday.

The page, created by Martinez’s cousin, said she had “a beautiful life (which) was stolen too soon” and was a victim of domestic violence. The page alleges that Martinez was murdered on her daughter’s 4th birthday.

Julie Martinez’s father is attempting to gain full custody of his granddaughter from the state, according to the post.

“Julie was a kind, loving, caring soul. Julie stepped into a mother role for her baby sister when her mother left them at a young age. Despite her hardships, she always gave so much love to all who met her,” according to the page.
