Nampa police fatally shoot woman after she flees, fires gun from vehicle, officials say
A 51-year-old Idaho woman is dead after being shot by Nampa police officers who were responding to a trespassing call on Friday afternoon.
A Nampa Police Department news release said that shortly after noon, officers located the suspect parked in a driveway in the 3800 block of Teakwood Drive and confirmed that she had outstanding warrants for her arrest. Police asked her to exit the vehicle, but she refused, and when an officer opened a door to the car, the suspect sped off and struck a patrol car, according to the release.
Police then pursued the woman to the 500 block of Mulberry Loop, where she pointed and discharged a firearm at officers, police said. Officers returned fire and shot the woman, who died at a local hospital, according to the release.
The Canyon County Critical Incident Task Force is investigating the shooting, with the Idaho State Police as the lead agency. Several blocks of South Raintree Drive were closed between West Crimson Loop and West Mulberry Loop in southwest Nampa on Friday afternoon, with both ISP and Nampa patrol cars at the scene.
The Nampa Police Department said no officers or anyone else was injured. Four officers have been placed on administrative leave in connection with the shooting, according to Nampa Police Lt. Eric Skoglund.
In an email to the Idaho Statesman, Skoglund said placing officers on leave is “standard procedure until the investigating agency completes their interview with the officer.”
It is the second Nampa police shooting in 10 days. On Wednesday, July 7, officers shot a man inside his Nampa home after he allegedly pointed a rifle at them and threatened to shoot, police say. That man survived his injuries and was booked into Canyon County jail.
