A Caldwell man has died at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise as a result of multiple gunshot wounds he received after shooting at police Saturday night.

Shane Farwell, 46, was listed in critical condition Sunday morning after exchanging fire with Caldwell police officers the night before. The Caldwell Police Department said in a news release it responded to a report of shots fired but was unable to locate a suspect. The police were called back to the same area later and said Farwell began shooting at officers when they arrived. They returned fire, striking Farwell.

Earlier in the night, Farwell reportedly shot at his wife but missed, and then forced his way into a neighbor’s house and held the occupants at gunpoint. Later, he fired a shotgun at a passing vehicle, striking a woman inside the car with pellets. She was treated at West Valley Medical Center for minor injuries before being released.

Officials said no officers were injured in the incident. Four officers who were involved have been placed on administrative leave as part of department protocol following officer-involved shootings.

Idaho State Police is leading a Critical Incident Task Force investigation into the shooting.
