UPDATE: Murder-suicide in Boise County involved mother and son, Idaho State Police say

An adult son likely shot and killed his mother before turning the gun on himself in a murder-suicide near Garden Valley, Idaho, according to authorities.

ISP assisted the Boise County Sheriff’s Office around 12:15 a.m. after the reporting party said a domestic dispute occurred between a mother and son, and the gun had been fired more than once, according to a news release.

The two deceased adults were identified as Helen Beckwith and Joshua Beckwith. Based on evidence at the scene, ISP troopers believe Joshua Beckwith shot his mother and then shot himself.

When Boise County deputies and ISP troopers arrived, they entered the home and found the two adults deceased in an upstairs room.

Besides the mother and son, there were two other adults and one juvenile in the home at the time of the shooting, but they were able to safely leave.

The investigation is ongoing.
