Meridian man arrested on 2 manslaughter charges stemming from 2018 fatal crash

Thomas L. Hunt, 20, was arrested Thursday on a Canyon County warrant for two counts of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter stemming from a crash that killed two of his passengers in 2018.

A warrant check conducted during an investigation led police to the arrest on Thursday, according to the Meridian Police Department.

Officers responded to a reported burglary in process at a home on the 5000 block of Torana Drive in Meridian. Upon arrival, police found that there was no burglary, but the homeowner — who was there with two others, including Hunt — was locked out of his residence, according to police.

Hunt, of Meridian, was involved in a fatal crash last July, according to Idaho State Police. Police said an 18-year-old Meridian man and a juvenile were killed in the Canyon County crash.

The crash happened at Robinson Road and Kuna Road. Hunt was northbound on Robinson in a 2002 Chevrolet Blazer and Jacob P. Ware, 32, of Kuna, was eastbound on Kuna Road in a 2014 Subaru Impreza.

ISP reported at the time that Hunt failed to yield at a stop sign and collided with Ware. Two of Hunt’s passengers, Zachary J. Newman, 18, of Meridian, and a juvenile were ejected and died at the scene. The juvenile’s name was not released.

The complaint was filed in July 2019, but Hunt wasn’t arrested until Thursday.

Further information was not available on Friday afternoon.
