Showing at house for sale in Eagle subdivision yields unusual find. What was it?
Prospective buyers at a showing of a house in Eagle’s Valnova subdivision saw a little more than they expected recently — a stray bullet that was in the home.
An investigation into how it got there and who did the shooting at the house adjacent to the Eagle Foothills is underway, and Eagle Police Chief Travis Ruby said during a City Council meeting on Tuesday that there were no injuries and that the home was unoccupied.
A police spokesperson told the Idaho Statesman via email that the bullet was discovered on May 23 while a real estate agent was giving people a tour of the house. Police said that as of now, they are “unsure” of the caliber or type of bullet.
Ruby told the council members that GWC Capital and Clyde Capital Group, the developers of Valnova, hired a security company to patrol the area and that there have been “a couple other examples of construction trailers being hit for the contractors as well.”
The incident was brought to the council’s attention while it considered adopting an ordinance that would further restrict the use of firearms within Eagle, while also updating penalties for crimes ranging from misdemeanor offenses to noise ordinance violations. The council tabled the discussion for further review until July 21.
The Ada County Sheriff’s Office, which handles law enforcement through a contract with the city of Eagle, said it has not received any similar calls about a bullet being discovered in a home. It asked anyone with any information on the incident to contact dispatch at 208-377-6790.
“This incident also serves as an important reminder about firearm safety,” Eagle police said. “Firearm owners are responsible for knowing their target and what lies beyond it, handling firearms safely at all times, and complying with all applicable laws. A single reckless act can have devastating consequences.”
