Meridian woman charged with causing death, injuries while driving under the influence
A Meridian woman has been charged with manslaughter for allegedly causing a car crash in the Boise area.
Emily Minow, 42, was charged with one count of felony vehicular manslaughter for hitting another vehicle at 3:14 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of North Locust Grove and East Franklin roads in Meridian while under the influence of illegal drugs, according to the criminal complaint.
Minow admitted to officers at the scene that she ran a red light in a Ford Explorer and struck another vehicle containing four occupants, Ada County Prosecuting Attorney Tamera Kelly said at the Monday afternoon arraignment.
One person in the other vehicle died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Minow was also charged with three felony aggravated DUIs for “causing great bodily harm” to the three additional occupants, according to the complaint.
The surviving victims sustained “significant injuries,” including broken bones, bruising, contusions and blood loss, Kelly said.
“When law enforcement contacted the defendant, she was disheveled,” Kelly said in court. “She was acting in an erratic and emotional manner. She exhibited slurred speech, poor memory, drooping facial expressions, and had a dry mouth with a white substance on the top. She also displayed an apparent lack of pain associated with a significant injury she had sustained and an apparent lack of comprehension as to the severity of the situation that was before her.”
Kelly said Minow attempted to leave the scene by contacting someone for a ride and ignored police questions and directives.
Test results to determine if substances were in Minow’s system at the time of the incident are pending, Kelly said.
Minow previously pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges for driving under the influence in 2011 and 2017.
The Ada County Coroner’s Office has not released the name of the deceased victim.
Ada County Magistrate Judge Michael Lojack set bail at $1 million.
