If the owner of these lost cows isn’t found, they’ll go to market. It’s Idaho law
A pair of lost cows could have an unfortunate ending if they aren’t reunited with their owners.
Two lost cows were found as strays in Kuna on Wednesday, and the Idaho Humane Society is looking for their owner. The humane society said Friday that the cows were found at about 1 a.m. near Black Cat and Columbia.
If the owners of the cows aren’t found, they will be sold to a livestock market, the humane society said.
“Please help us find their owners,” the humane society said in a Facebook post. “Idaho law states we must pass along the cattle to a livestock market for sale if we cannot reunite them.”
Officials contacted several people trying to track down an owner. They called the feedlot that sold them, and contacted a veterinarian. Neither place could provide the humane society with contact information for the owners.
“We have also contacted the brand inspector and that did not provide any leads,” the humane society said.
Several people on Facebook offered to take the cows in if they weren’t reunited with their owners. Other people weren’t happy about the Idaho law that could send them to slaughter.
“Someone else can buy them and slaughter them,” one commenter said. “Idaho can’t give animals a break, can it?”
