A driver who ran a red light caused a multivehicle crash that sent two people to the hospital and forced the closure of a busy Nampa intersection for more than an hour on Wednesday, according to a spokesperson for the Nampa Police Department.

The crash at the intersection of Karcher Road and Middleton Road occurred just before 1 p.m. after a driver ran a red light, hitting another vehicle, which then collided with additional cars, police said. Five vehicles were involved.

Two people were transported by Canyon County Paramedics for medical treatment, police said. Although their conditions are unknown, officials said the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

The driver who caused the crash was cited for running a red light, according to police.

The intersection reopened at 2:15 p.m., but police asked drivers to be patient as congestion clears.
