Rescuers found a missing Boisean along the Snake River. Drones ‘saved this woman’s life’

The Boise woman who went missing last week was found and rescued with the help of new technology, officials said Monday.

On Friday, the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office office put out a public call for help locating Susan Brooks, 36, who goes by “Akeisha,” after she was last seen in Celebration Park on Wednesday.

Rescuers ended up finding Brooks on Friday afternoon in an area along the Snake River several miles west of Celebration Park, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

It turned out that Brooks had fallen off a walking path into “an area covered with dense brush, making it impossible for her to get out on her own,” according to the release.

“She had been out in the elements and extreme heat for two days,” Canyon County Sheriff Kieran Donahue said. “Had it been any longer, I truly believe we would have had a much different and more tragic outcome.”

Law enforcement said they located Brooks using drones, also known as unmanned aerial vehicles. Donahue commended his team, saying it was an “all hands on deck” effort.

“I’m convinced that our ability to deploy the latest UAV technology in combination with the skilled drone operators on our team is ultimately what saved this woman’s life,” Donahue said in the release.

After her rescue, Brooks was taken to a local hospital for treatment, officials said.
