Ada County coroner identifies local pedestrian killed in SUV collision

The Ada County Coroner’s Office has released the name of the pedestrian who was struck and killed by an SUV on Sunday.

A 19-year-old man from Caldwell was driving a Nissan Rogue north on Kimball Avenue near Felton Street when he hit a 46-year-old woman at about 7:05 p.m., according to an Idaho State Police news release.

Ada County Coroner Richard Riffle identified the pedestrian as Caldwell resident Victoria Esparza on Monday afternoon.

An ambulance transported Esparza to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, according to police. The Coroner’s Office said she was pronounced dead at 7:47 p.m. in the emergency room “after lifesaving measures were unsuccessful.”

Her cause of death was traumatic blunt force injuries, and the manner of death was listed as accidental, according to the coroner’s report.

The driver was not taken to the hospital, police said.

Kimball Avenue was blocked for more than two hours after the accident to allow “emergency responders to assist those involved and clear the scene,” according to police.

The Coroner’s Office said Idaho State Police is conducting an investigation on the incident.
