Caldwell police said they evacuated City Hall on Wednesday morning after city staff noticed a large, suspicious envelope.

After an envelope arrived in the building’s mailroom with threatening language on it, employees called the police around 11:30 a.m. “I think the word ‘explosive’ was used,” Char Jackson, a spokesperson for the Caldwell Police Department, told the Idaho Statesman by phone. The agency first posted news of the evacuation on Facebook.

Police evacuated the workers in the building and secured the area, Jackson said. A dog from the Nampa Police Department’s bomb squad responded too but didn’t find anything.

Police allowed employees back into the building around 1 p.m.

Jackson said in a follow-up text that police were “not releasing details on what was outside or inside as it is still an ongoing investigation.” She said they will also not disclose whether the envelope was addressed to anyone.
