Pickup truck strikes woman crossing road in Nampa, Idaho, sending her to the hospital

A 44-year-old man driving a Ford F-250 pickup struck a pedestrian in the 400 block of East Karcher Road on Wednesday night, according to the Nampa Police Department.

A 28-year-old female was crossing Karcher when she was hit by the truck, police said in a news release. The woman was not in a crosswalk, and poor visibility due to weather conditions might have been a factor in the accident, according to the release.

Neither the driver of the truck nor the woman who was hit has been identified. They are both Nampa residents, police said.

The woman was transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries, and the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to NPD. The investigation is ongoing.

Police also said in the release that they have seen a slight rise in vehicle-pedestrian collisions, and reminded people of many safety tips, including:

  • Walking on a sidewalk if possible, and crossing streets only in crosswalks.
  • Obeying all traffic signals and signs, and staying alert to walkers.
  • Walking and crossing where you can see oncoming traffic.
  • Driving attentively and at safe speeds, and remembering that pedestrians can be difficult to see, especially at night.
