Coroner identifies victim of head-on, high-speed crash on Idaho 16, near Firebird

A head-on crash Wednesday evening on Idaho 16 ended in the death of a 42-year-old man after his vehicle, traveling at 65 mph, hit a tow truck that also was traveling at about 65 mph.

The Ada County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased man as William “Bill” Fuller Jr., of Emmett.

The crash occurred around 5:45 p.m. when Fuller, in a Kia Soul, was traveling northwest on Idaho 16 near west Colton Lane. The Kia hit a tow truck traveling southeast, according to the Ada County Sheriff’s Office. The vehicles were just north of the Firebird Raceway.

“Our deputies are still working to determine exactly how that happened, so there is no determination of fault at this time,” Sheriff’s Office spokesman Patrick Orr said in an email. “The crash was violent, as initial information shows both vehicles were going around the speed limit … at the time.”

The badly damaged vehicles covered both lanes in debris, officials said. The Kia had two juvenile passengers, both of whom were transported to a hospital with serious injuries. The Sheriff’s Office did not have their updated health status on Thursday morning.

Initial information showed the vehicles collided in the southbound lane, and it was unclear how the Kia ended up in the opposite lane.

Fuller was pronounced dead at the scene.
