Boise could add new ‘pocket park’ and Foothills space, trail connections
Boise could add a new park and more Foothills open space if two proposals announced this week are approved by the City Council.
City officials announced Friday that a local landowner and utility offered land for the new projects, which will go before the council for approval next week.
Foothills landowner Greg Satz and his family offered to donate 44 acres of land off of Warm Springs Avenue near Warm Springs Golf Course. According to a news release from the city, the donation would expand open space options near the Mesa and Table Rock reserves and could create trail connections for nearby Table Rock trails, which are part of the Ridge to Rivers trail system.
The property borders parcels owned by Boise Parks and Recreation and by the state.
Boise has already spent around $20,000 of Open Space and Clean Water Levy funds on surveys, closing costs and other donation costs associated with the parcel, the news release said. Those costs were approved by the City Council earlier this month.
The second project would be a “pocket park” built along Hummel Drive on a 0.19-acre decommissioned well site conveyed to the city by Veolia Water. The city news release said the small park would create a connection between Phillippi and Borah parks.
The project is part of the city’s goal to have a park within a 10-minute walk of every resident. The new park would be within a 10-minute walk of about 150 homes and 380 residents, the news release said.
If City Council approves the proposed park, the property conveyance will not cost the city any money, officials said.
