Ridge to Rivers adds a ‘highly requested’ trail to Boise Foothills. Here’s where
Ridge to Rivers will add two miles of new trail to its 200-plus mile system this year in the form of a “highly requested” route, according to a news release.
The trail management organization — a collaboration between the city of Boise, Ada County, Boise National Forest, Bureau of Land Management and other Foothills landowners — and city said Thursday that construction will begin on a downhill mountain biking trail near Hulls Gulch Reserve in mid-April.
The new trail, named Sideshow, will connect Corrals to Bob’s Trail and the 8th Street Connection. It will be closed to pedestrians, equestrians and dogs, but officials said it will allow for adaptive mountain bikes used by people with disabilities.
Ridge to Rivers said the route will help trail users spread out and avoid conflicts.
“As the popularity of the Ridge to Rivers Trail System continues to grow, we are excited to be adding a new opportunity for mountain bikers that not only meets a need but allows us to provide the variety of experiences they seek,” said Ridge to Rivers Trail Manager David Gordon in the news release.
The city will pay about $150,000 for the project, which will be constructed by Bozeman, Montana-based Integrated Trail LAB.
The trail is largely on Bureau of Land Management property but also crosses private property through a revocable easement, the news release said. Officials expect to close the trail in winter months to avoid damage.
It’s unclear when construction is expected to be completed.
