No, Capitol Boulevard is not open yet, Boise. Rainy weather delays work
Expect a few more days of slightly more dreadful downtown traffic, because road repairs on Capitol Boulevard are paused as a result of this week’s rain.
The highly anticipated reopening was set for Friday, after a broken geothermal line caused road damage last week. But a few days of rain and wet roads has delayed things, in particular the ability to apply new paint to the street, the city of Boise said in a news release.
Officials said Capitol should reopen late in the day Monday. The National Weather Service forecast for the weekend and Monday is for sunny skies and no rain.
Capitol Boulevard between Myrtle and Broad streets was closed Sept. 24 when the geothermal water line broke. Crews have been working since to completely assess and fix what they found to be an expansive issue.
The closure includes the two northernmost lanes of Myrtle Street near Capitol. Crosswalks on the north and east sides of the Myrtle-Capitol intersection also have been closed.
According to the release, road striping was planned for Friday, but the pavement is too wet for that. The reopening will occur Monday “barring any changes in weather forecasts.”
The city and the Ada County Highway District encourages drivers to consider alternate routes.
