Boise Airport adds another Southern California flight. Sun Valley gets one, too

Starting next year, Alaska Airlines will add a ninth flight between Boise and California. Just in time for ski season, it’s also launching a new route between the Golden State and Sun Valley.

In early January, travelers in the Treasure Valley can fly nonstop to the city of Ontario in San Bernardino County, California, just east of Los Angeles. The year-round route will join Alaska’s other flights from Boise to Southern California: L.A., Burbank, Orange County and San Diego.

Three weeks prior, Alaska also will begin nonstop winter seasonal flights between San Diego and Sun Valley, three times each week.

“These new additions further expand our ability to take our guests between growing markets in California and the Pacific Northwest for leisure and business travel,” Kirsten Armine, the airline’s vice president of revenue management and network planning, said in a statement.

The new Boise flight adds a 26th nonstop route at the airport — 16 of which are flown by Alaska, its main commercial air carrier. Boise Airport officials said they are pleased with the Seattle-based airline’s growing local commitment.

“The new nonstop service to Ontario, California, expands our passengers’ access to the LA Basin, providing greater convenience and more travel options,” airport spokesperson Shawna Samuelson told the Idaho Statesman by email.

Before then, Alaska on Oct. 5 will restart its nonstop flight between Boise and Bozeman, Montana. The new Ontario route will begin Jan. 7, 2026.

The Sun Valley to San Diego winter seasonal flight will start Dec. 18.

The airport is coming off its busiest month so far this year, with more than 480,000 travelers in June. The total marked its busiest June on record.

At the halfway point of 2025, the airport is tracking nearly 8% ahead for passengers compared to 2024, when it broke its annual total with nearly 5 million.
