As cold weather and high winds sweep into the Treasure Valley this weekend, here are some indoor activities — and outdoor options — in and around the Boise area.

Gem State Comic Con 2022

The Gem State Comic Con returns this Saturday at Expo Idaho at 5610 N. Glenwood St. in Garden City. According to the event’s website, it is a family-friendly event that caters to all kinds of fandoms, ranging from comics and movies to video games, cosplay and fantasy.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. General admission tickets for children 12 and younger are free, while tickets for those 13 and up are $11. A family pack is also available for $35, which includes tickets for four people 13 and older.

Zoo Boise Easter EGGstravaganza

For the first time since 2020, Zoo Boise’s Easter EGGstravaganza will be running at the zoo on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Zoo Boise is located in Julia Davis Park at 355 Julia Davis Drive.

Over 30,000 pieces of candy will be passed out to visitors, according to Zoo Boise’s website. Visitors will also be able to meet and take photos with the Easter Bunny, get their faces painted and give special treats to animals around the zoo.

General admission tickets are $8 for ages 3 to 11, and 62 and older; and $11 for those 12 to 61. Kids 2 or younger get in free. Tickets can be purchased at the event.

Boise Bourbon Bash

StrangeLove nightclub, located at 100 S. 6th St. in downtown Boise, will host the third annual Bourbon Bash on Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m.

StrangeLove will be “opening the vault,” according to a Facebook post. The night club is opening up all three floors for the event and allowing guests to access a two-year stockpile of more than 100 premium and rare whiskeys, bourbons and scotches.

The event is also offering “5-star steak appetizers” from Snake River Farms and a cigar lounge from Sturman’s Smoke Shop.

Tickets for the event are $100, plus about $14 in processing fees.

The Bootleggers’ Ball

Experience the Roaring 20s at the Bootleggers’ Ball at Watson’s Mystery Cafe and Spirits, located at 8001 W. Fairview Ave., from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday. Watson’s encourages visitors to dress up for the show, with this weekend’s theme being a 1920s speakeasy.

Watson’s is a bar and dinner service theater in West Boise in which the on-stage talent interacts with the crowd throughout the shows.

Tickets start at $19.95 for just a ticket to the show, $24.95 for a ticket and one glass of wine or beer, and $50 ticket for the show and a three-course dinner with drinks.

Bird Walk: Bethine Church River Trail

Temperatures could drop to around freezing on Sunday morning, but for those who still want to bundle up and get outside, the Golden Eagle Audubon Society is hosting a trail and guided birding walk on Sunday at 10 a.m. The group will be meeting outside of the Library at Bown Crossing, located at 2153 E. Riverwalk Drive, before walking to the Bethine Church River Trail on the Boise River Greenbelt.

“This is a great opportunity to learn about riparian habitat as we focus on local birds, plants, and stewardship efforts in the area,” the event listing says. “Expect to see songbirds, waterfowl, woodpeckers, herons, and kingfishers.”

Those interested can register online and contact Golden Eagle Audubon’s educational programs director Adra Lobdell at alobdell@goldeneagleaudubon.org with any questions.

The walk is free to join, but registration is required and you must show up on time so the group does not leave without you.
