Dump truck hits power lines, causes power outage for hundreds of Boise residents
A dump truck that damaged power lines at Victory Road and Federal Way in Boise knocked out power for hundreds of residents Wednesday morning and closed the road for “at least one full day,” officials said.
In a tweet, Boise Police Department said several power lines were affected by the incident. Photos from the scene showed multiple utility poles leaning, with one that appeared to be broken in half and suspended by power lines.
Boise Police spokesperson Haley Kramer told the Idaho Statesman preliminary investigations show a dump truck driver was driving with the truck bed in a lifted position, which hit the power lines.
By noon, about 660 people were still affected by the power outage, said Idaho Power spokesperson Erica Shiflet. Earlier in the day, as many as 3,200 customers were without power.
Shiflet said the remaining customers may not regain power until 8 p.m., nearly 12 hours after the outage began. She said multiple crews are working to repair or replace eight damaged utility poles.
Boise police said Victory Road will remain closed between Federal Way and Lindsay Avenue for at least one full day.
Boise Police Department said no injuries were reported in the accident and the driver is cooperating.
