Update: Boise firefighter who had medical emergency on call is released from hospital

A Boise firefigher who was hospitalized on Friday after suffering a medical emergency while responding to a reported structure fire went home from the hospital on Tuesday, according to the Boise Fire Department.

Before 8 a.m., fire crews responded to W. Williams Street, south of Boise State University, last week. Once they arrived at the scene, “a responding firefighter was found unconscious and unresponsive in their fire engine,” according to a news release.

Lifesaving efforts were conducted at the scene and the firefighter was taken to a hospital. On Tuesday, the firefighter was released and able to return home, and he was greeted by fellow firefighters, according to a news release.

“I am happy to share that our firefighter is doing much better and is on the road to recovery,” said Boise Fire Chief Mark Niemeyer in the release. “We will continue to provide support and assistance to him, his family, and members of the Boise Fire Department.”
