The U.S. Social Security Administration recently released its list of the top 100 baby names in 2024, ranking the most popular monikers for newborn boys and girls nationally and in every state.

Baby naming trends have varied in recent years, with parents finding inspiration everywhere from fairycore and family friends to the “very demure” TikTok meme, baby name consultant Colleen Slagen told Motherly.

More than 3.6 million births were recorded in the United States in 2024, an increase of 1% from the previous year, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

A total of 11,431 babies were born in Idaho from January 2024 to July 2024, the CDC said, although state birth statistics for the full year weren’t available as of Tuesday, Sept. 2.

Liam was the No. 1 baby name for boys in the United States in 2024, the Social Security Administration said, Olivia held the national title for the most popular girls name.

Liam and Olivia were also the most popular U.S. baby names of 2023, according to the federal agency.

In 2024, Noah was the second-most popular boys name for babies born in the United States, and Emma was the No. 2 choice for girls.

Liam and Olivia didn’t lead the lists for most popular baby names for boys and girls in Idaho in 2024, but both names made the top 10.

Ava, Willow and Harper, which ranked among the top 10 names for girls in Idaho in 2023, dropped off the list. Meanwhile, the names Lucy, Eleanor and Lainey returned to the list.
