Do you know an Archer or Lainey? Idaho’s most popular, fastest-rising baby names in 2023
Get ready to bump into a lot of Olivers and Olivias in the near future. For the fourth straight year, those names have ranked as the most common boy and girl baby names in Idaho.
The pair of names have floated around the top five in their respective genders yearly since 2014, but have maintained a tight grip on the No. 1 spot since 2020.
Data from the Social Security Administration outlines the most popular baby names dating back to 1960, showing the progression from David and Lori in 1960 to Oliver and Olivia over 60 years later.
The top five names in Idaho for baby boys in 2023 were Oliver, Liam, Henry, Theodore and James, which have dominated the top 10 for the best part of the last decade.
The same trend can be said for the top five baby girl names. In 2023, Olivia led the way ahead of Charlotte, Evelyn, Amelia and Emma.
However, a handful of names also jumped significantly in popularity in 2023. Some of the quickly rising boy names include Archer (No. 40), Rowan (No. 43), Silas (No. 45), Santiago (No. 50 and Stetson (No. 60).
The high-risers for girls’ names include Lainey (No. 15), Millie (No. 36), Lillian (No. 44), Wren (No. 52) and Zoey (No. 58).
The Social Security Administration notes that while some names may seem more popular than their ranking, different spellings and official birth names, such as Zoe and Zoey or Elias and Eli, are counted differently in their system.
Looking beyond the Gem State and on a national scale, some of the more unusual names to become popular in 2023 on the boys’ side are Onyx (No. 308), Ocean (No. 609 ) and Tru (No. 673). Some of the more unusual names on the girls’ side nationwide include Journee (No. 210), Londyn (No. 276) and Khaleesi (No. 709).
