Two people dead after head-on collision with semi truck Monday afternoon on Idaho 55

Two people died at the scene of a three-vehicle crash on Idaho 55 on Monday afternoon, according to a news release from the Idaho State Police.

Around 1:14 p.m., the driver of a 2002 Chevy Silverado pickup truck driving southbound on Idaho 55 attempted to pass a 2016 Freightliner semi truck that was in a slow vehicle turnout. When the pickup moved into the northbound lane, it collided head-on with a 2019 Kenworth semi truck. The crash occurred around milepost 83, north of Banks.

The driver and passenger of the Silverado both died of their injuries at the scene, police said. They have not been publicly identified. The driver and passenger in the Kenworth semi were both taken by ground ambulance to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. Officials said all individuals in the vehicles were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
