A Meridian man now holds the state record for the biggest largescale sucker on record in Idaho, according to Idaho Fish and Game.

Dave Gassel landed the 9.04-pound sucker at Lake Cascade, outstripping Patrick Perry’s previous largescale sucker record of 8.42 pounds. Perry also reeled in his catch at Lake Cascade, known for large perch.

According to the Fish and Game release, Gassel was ice fishing at the frozen Valley County lake on Sunday when he caught the fish. The previous record stood for more than 12 years.

It’s been a big year for record catches in Idaho everywhere from the Boise River to American Falls.
