Idaho adds fewer than 800 new COVID-19 cases on back-to-back days

Idaho has added fewer than 800 new COVID-19 cases each of the past two days.

The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare reported 724 new cases and 22 new deaths Wednesday. That’s down from the 768 cases reported Tuesday.

Ada County was the only county in the state to see its total increase by triple digits, adding 234 new cases. The latest deaths were spread between Ada (2 new), Bonner (2), Boundary (2), Canyon (4), Caribou (1), Cassia (1), Kootenai (5), Lewis (1), Madison (1), Minidoka (1), Nez Perce (1) and Oneida (1) counties.

Six of the deaths were individuals 80 or older, six were in their 70s, three were in their 60s, five were in their 50s, one was in their 30s and one was younger than 18, according to updated demographics from Health and Welfare.

To date, Idaho has lost 3,703 residents to the virus, with a case fatality rate of about 1.24%.

Of the 841,747 Idahoans who are fully vaccinated, 15,713 individuals have experienced a breakthrough infection, or about 1.87%. The latest vaccination data for Idaho show that 55.8% of individuals 12 and older are fully vaccinated, while 80% of individuals 65 or older are vaccinated.

Hospitalization data, which is generally updated on Monday, Wednesday and Friday by Health and Welfare, appeared to be incomplete. Only 33 hospitals reported data, but typically 46 or more facilities have new information.
