Ada County’s daily average of new COVID-19 cases has increased 80% in two weeks
As Idaho’s seven-day moving average of new cases of COVID-19 has grown over the past two weeks, Ada County has followed a similar pattern.
The home to Idaho’s capital city added 106 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus on Saturday. It marks the second time in the past three days Ada County’s caseload has increased by 100 or more.
Ada County’s seven-day average stands at 76.9 confirmed cases per day, an increase of 37.3% from one week ago (56.0) and 80.1% from two weeks ago (42.7). There have been 12,246 confirmed cases recorded in Ada County since the start of the pandemic and 150 deaths, including two new deaths announced Saturday.
According to updates from the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, Southeastern Idaho Public Health and Eastern Idaho Public Health, there were 355 new confirmed cases and 107 new probable cases reported statewide on Saturday for a total of 462 cases. The state’s seven-day averaged reached 479.6 — an increase of nearly 70% from two weeks ago (283.3).
Eight other counties also saw double-digit increases on Saturday: Madison (39 new, 825 total), Twin Falls (32 new, 2,223 total), Canyon (21 new, 7,863 total), Kootenai (21 new, 2,778 total), Bonneville (18 new, 2,385 total), Bannock (15 new, 1,124 total), Minidoka (12 new, 691 total) and Cassia (11 new, 721 total).
The remaining counties adding new confirmed cases were Bear Lake (3 new, 51 total), Bingham (9 new, 971 total), Blaine (5 new, 665 total), Boise (1 new, 58 total), Bonner (5 new, 332 total), Butte (2 new, 43 total), Caribou (4 new, 113 total), Custer (1 new, 64 total), Elmore (3 new, 294 total), Franklin (9 new, 155 total), Gooding (4 new, 272 total), Idaho (1 new, 208 total), Jefferson (8 new, 522 total), Jerome (7 new, 707 total), Latah (3 new, 556 total), Lewis (1 new, 36 total), Lincoln (2 new, 76 total), Nez Perce (1 new, 434 total), Payette (5 new, 817 total), Teton (4 new, 179 total) and Washington (2 new, 355 total).
Since the start of the pandemic, 39,622 Idahoans have tested positive for the coronavirus. Health and Welfare reported 4,208 “probable” cases (107 new). IDHW estimates that of those infected, 22,744 people are presumed recovered.
DAILY DETAILS
Overall hospitalizations: Health and Welfare reports that there have been 1,900 hospitalizations of people with COVID-19, 465 admissions to the ICU and 2,925 health care workers infected. Hospital and health care numbers are based on cases with completed investigations into contacts, not the full number of positives.
St. Luke’s Health System: As of Oct. 2, the health system was reporting 32 patients in its hospitals with confirmed COVID-19 out of 408 patients overall. The health system reported a 14-day coronavirus test positivity rate of 9%.
Saint Alphonsus Health System: As of Oct. 2, the health system was reporting 27 patients in its hospitals with confirmed COVID-19 out of 336 patients overall. The health system reported a 14-day coronavirus test positivity rate of 8.3%.
Boise School District: The district says the following schools or units have reported confirmed COVID-19 cases among students or staff since Sept. 22: Borah High School (2 cases), Boise Online school (1), Dennis Technical Education Center (1), Hawthorne Elementary (1), Hillside Junior High (2), Shadow Hills Elementary (1).
Testing totals: At the end of the day Saturday, Health and Welfare reported that 316,370 people had been tested statewide. About 12.5% of those have been positive for COVID-19.
Counties with community spread: All counties except Adams have been announced to have community spread.
