Coronavirus: New death reported in southeastern Idaho; over 440 new cases Monday
Officials with Southeastern Idaho Public Health have reported there is a new coronavirus-related death within their area.
A Bannock County woman in her 60s is said to be the latest fatality connected to the COVID-19 outbreak, according to a news release from the health district Tuesday.
The woman’s death is the fifth reported in Bannock County and the 17th death within the boundaries of Southeastern Idaho Public Health. Of those deaths, 10 were reported in Bingham County and five in Bannock, with single deaths in Bear Lake and Power counties.
SIPH continues to push for all residents to take necessary precautions to combat the spread of the coronavirus, including hand washing, social distancing and wearing masks while in public.
The Bannock County death brings Idaho’s coronavirus total to 461 as of Tuesday afternoon.
Idaho reports nearly 450 new coronavirus cases Monday
A total of 449 new confirmed coronavirus cases were added Monday to Idaho’s totals, according to local health districts.
Idaho’s total coronavirus case count stood at 37,501 as of Monday evening. Its seven-day moving average grew once more, as it increased from 432.6 on Sunday to 438 on Monday.
Ada County reported a state-high 75 new cases on Monday, increasing its overall case count to 11,816 as of Monday. Canyon County reported a much lower count, adding only 22 new cases and increasing its total to 7,688 cases of the coronavirus, which causes the COVID-19 respiratory disease.
Latah County reported a noticeable rise in cases on Monday, adding 54 new confirmed cases to its totals. The county is home to the University of Idaho, which publicized Monday that several hot spots on campus were found on Greek Row. In a memo published Monday, university president Scott Green wrote that eight fraternities and sororities were placed in quarantine.
The number of active positive cases is around 1% of the total Moscow campus population, Green wrote. The university has completed around 10,000 COVID-19 tests as of Monday.
Elsewhere in Idaho, other counties also reported double-digit new case counts Monday, including Twin Falls (68 new), Madison (31), Bannock (17), Bingham (12), Kootenai (33), Bonneville (15), Jerome (11), Cassia (13), Blaine (15) and Minidoka (17).
The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare reported 49 new “probable” cases, and that total was 3,651 as of Monday. Of those confirmed to have the virus, IDHW estimates that 21,796 are presumed to have recovered.
As of Monday, 304,891 coronavirus tests have been taken around Idaho, with around 12.3% of tests returning positive, according to IDHW.

Nearly all Idaho counties have reported community spread in the community, with the exceptions of Adams, Butte and Franklin.
