Six more Idahoans die of the coronavirus, but count for new cases stay below 300
Six more Idahoans have died in connection with COVID-19, Idaho public health officials reported Monday. The latest deaths included two in Canyon County and one each in Ada, Kootenai, Shoshone and Owyhee counties.
That brings the statewide coronavirus death toll to 275 people, according to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare and local health districts.
Ada County reported 75 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus on Monday, bringing the county total to 9,440 cases, according to Central District Health. With the addition of Monday’s death, 96 people in Ada County have died of coronavirus.
Canyon County wasn’t far behind Ada, reporting 62 new confirmed cases Monday. The new cases bring the Canyon County total to 6,104 cases. With the two new deaths confirmed Monday, 58 people in Canyon County have died of coronavirus.
In total Monday, the state confirmed 271 new cases of the coronavirus, bringing the statewide total to 26,143 cases since the pandemic began.
It was the third straight day that Idaho reported fewer than 300 new confirmed cases, a first since June 30-July 2.
The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare reported there were 1,851 “probable cases” of coronavirus on Monday. The state also said 11,093 people were presumed to have recovered from COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus.

Overall hospitalizations: Health and Welfare reports that there have been 1,129 hospitalizations because of the coronavirus, 316 admissions to the ICU and 1,660 health care workers who have been infected. Hospital and health care numbers are based on cases with completed investigations into contacts, not the full number of positives.
St. Luke’s Health System: As of Aug. 16, the hospital was reporting a 14-day coronavirus testing positivity rate of 9%, with 49 patients hospitalized with confirmed COVID-19 out of 415 patients overall.
Saint Alphonsus Health System: As of Aug. 16, the hospital was reporting a 14-day coronavirus positivity testing rate of 21.28%, with 57 patients hospitalized with confirmed COVID-19 out of 356 patients overall.
Testing totals: At the end of the day Sunday, Health and Welfare reported that 225,018 tests had been completed statewide. About 11.6% of those have been positive for COVID-19.
