Idaho’s COVID cases hit a seven-week low, but three health districts did not report

Idaho on Sunday reported its lowest single-day total of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in more than seven weeks.

Analyzing data provided by the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, there were 182 new confirmed cases added statewide for a total of 25,872 cases since the start of the pandemic. The last time the Gem State dipped below the 200-case mark was June 27 (116 cases).

However, Health and Welfare did not show any new cases for three of the state’s seven health districts — Panhandle Health District, Idaho North Central District and Southeastern Idaho Public Health — so Sunday’s total is likely artificially low.

Three counties were responsible for the bulk of Sunday’s added cases. Canyon County checked in with 54 new cases (6,042 total), Ada County reported 44 (9,365 total) and Bonneville County increased its total by 36 to 1,088.

Idaho’s 14-day moving average is 447.6 cases per day, with Ada and Canyon counties representing 128.1 and 96.1 cases per day, respectively.

Other counties with additional cases Sunday were Cassia (2 new, 498 total), Clark (1 new, 11 total), Fremont (2 new, 82 total), Gooding (1 new, 162 total), Jefferson (10 new, 219 total), Jerome (4 new, 467 total), Lemhi (3 new, 43 total), Lincoln (1 new, 55 total), Madison (8 new, 153 total), Minidoka (1 new, 471 total), Owyhee (3 new, 250 total), Payette (4 new, 408 total), Twin Falls (3 new, 1,369 total), Valley (2 new, 73 total) and Washington (4 new, 223 total).

IDHW removed one case from Teton, dropping its total to 83.

The state also reported 1,819 “probable cases” (3 new) and 10,833 people who are believed to have recovered.
