Idaho goes record sixth consecutive day with multiple deaths from the coronavirus
With four new deaths from COVID-19 announced Saturday by the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, Idaho has gone a record six consecutive days with multiple deaths from the virus.
Kootenai County added three new deaths from the coronavirus for a total of 13, while Shoshone County announced its second death — both of which occurred this week. No details were provided.
Since the pandemic reached Idaho in March, 197 Idahoans have lost their lives to the virus, including 49 deaths since July 27. The case fatality rate is about 0.93%. At least 106 of the state’s deaths from the coronavirus have been residents of long-term care facilities.
Analyzing county-by-county case counts from Health and Welfare compared with the case counts posted Friday by the state’s seven individual health districts, there were 385 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported Saturday. The statewide total grew to 19,930 cases.
Health and Welfare also reported seven new “probable cases,” bringing the total number of probable cases to 1,265. Additionally, 7,146 people are now considered to be “recovered” from the virus.
The new confirmed cases added Saturday were in Ada (163 new, 7,535 total), Blaine (1 new, 554 total), Boise (1 new, 31 total), Bonner (6 new, 147 total), Bonneville (24 new, 592 total), Canyon (73 new, 4,606 total), Cassia (8 new, 424 total), Elmore (4 new, 194 total), Franklin (2 new, 41 total), Fremont (5 new, 42 total), Gem (1 new, 140 total), Gooding (3 new, 119 total), Idaho (1 new, 29 total), Jefferson (4 new, 116 total), Jerome (6 new, 370 total), Kootenai (43 new, 1,563 total), Madison (1 new, 104 total), Minidoka (9 new, 396 total), Nez Perce (2 new, 115 total), Owyhee (5 new, 214 total), Payette (3 new, 298 total), Shoshone (8 new, 73 total), Teton (1 new, 54 total), Twin Falls (8 new, 1,082 total) and Washington (3 new, 176 total) counties.
Daily details
Hospitalizations: Health and Welfare reports that there have been 856 hospitalizations due to the coronavirus, 250 admissions to the ICU and 1,248 health care workers who have been infected. The hospital and health care numbers are based on cases with completed investigations into contacts, not the full number of positives.
Testing totals: At the end of the day Saturday, Health and Welfare reported that 183,034 tests had been completed statewide. About 10.9% of those have been positive for COVID-19.
