Idaho has lost 75 residents to coronavirus in July — including first person in their 30s
Since July 1, 75 Idahoans have lost their lives to the coronavirus, including nine new deaths announced Tuesday between Ada, Boise, Canyon, Kootenai and Twin Falls counties. There have been 20 COVID-19 deaths reported in Idaho in the past two days.
A male in his 80s became the first Boise County resident to die from the virus, according to a press release from Central District Health. Meanwhile, Ada, Canyon, Twin Falls and Kootenai counties each saw two new COVID-19 deaths.
“We express our deepest sympathies to those impacted by the recent COVID-19-related death in Boise County. As we see more people in rural areas of our health district affected by COVID-19, it serves as a good reminder that wearing face coverings out in public and keeping ourselves physically distanced are the greatest tools we have to help protect our fellow Idahoans at this time,” CDH District Director Russ Duke said in a press release.
“Anyone visiting our remote counties, for any reason, needs to follow this guidance to help protect people living in those areas where access to immediate health care is limited.”
The statewide death toll from the coronavirus has reached 168 with a case fatality rate of about 0.88%. According to demographics from the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, one of the latest deaths was an individual in their 30s. It is the first Idaho death from the virus in a person under the age of 40. No details on the case, including where it took place, were released.
A confirmed case of COVID-19 has now been found in 42 of Idaho’s 44 counties after Eastern Idaho Public Health announced the first case in Clark County on Tuesday. The individual is a male in his 50s who acquired the virus by community transmission, according to EIPH.
Eastern Idaho Public Health, which serves Bonneville, Clark, Custer, Fremont, Jefferson, Lemhi, Madison and Teton counties, says active cases and hospitalizations in its district have each increased by more than 360% this month.
The state’s seven health districts reported a combined 432 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus on Tuesday, increasing the statewide total to 18,010 cases since the pandemic arrived in Idaho in March.
