Coronavirus: Payette jail finds new case, Rite Aid expands testing around Idaho
An inmate at the Payette County Jail tested positive for the coronavirus, the second time that has happened.
The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare told county officials that a 32-year-old man who was booked into the jail July 2 had tested positive, the county Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Tuesday.
The man was not showing symptoms, and he was released on bond later that day.
Earlier this month, the Payette sheriff said an inmate who had been in custody since February tested positive for COVID-19. Since that case, the 72-bed jail has launched preventative measures, including screening new inmates, monitoring for symptoms, testing people in its custody and sanitizing the jail, according to the news release.
As of Tuesday evening, Payette County has 176 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
