Ada County continues to see increase in coronavirus cases; Panhandle reports first death
Ada County continued to see a steep increase in confirmed cases of the coronavirus Monday as 29 new cases were reported by Central District Health, increasing the Boise area’s state-leading total to 856.
Ada has reported 72 news cases in the past week after reporting 70 in the 19 days prior to that. On Saturday, the county reported 16 new cases, and Monday’s total was its most since April 8 when 38 were reported.
Idaho’s death toll also grew by one to 89 on Monday as the Panhandle Health District reported the first coronavirus-related death in its region. The deceased was a man in his 70s from Kootenai County. On Saturday, Eastern Idaho Public Health announced the first death in its district — a woman in her 80s from Bonneville County who had underlying health conditions.
Idaho health districts reported 66 new cases Monday, bringing the statewide total to 3,122.
New cases were added in Ada (29 new, 856 total), Adams (2 new, 6 total), Bannock (4 new, 62 total), Bonneville (5 new, 57 total), Cassia (4 new, 123 total), Canyon (4 new, 331 total), Elmore (1 new, 34 total), Franklin (2 new, 16 total), Jerome (3 new, 180 total), Kootenai (1 new, 99 total), Latah (1 new, 7 total), Lemhi (1 new, 2 total), Minidoka (1 new, 88 total), Owyhee (1 new, 9 total), Payette (1 new, 24 total), Twin Falls (4 new, 402 total) and Washington (2 new, 51 total) counties.
There are 341 “probable cases” in the state, an increase of three from Saturday. The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare reports that 2,877 cases are “presumed recovered.”

Hospitalizations: Health and Welfare reports that there have been 270 hospitalizations due to the coronavirus, 100 admissions to the ICU and 366 health care workers who have been infected. The hospital and health care numbers are based on cases with completed investigations into contacts, not the full number of positives.
Testing totals: At the end of the day Saturday, Health and Welfare reported that 65,306 tests had been completed statewide. About 4.8% of those have been positive for COVID-19.
