Coronavirus: Three new deaths in Treasure Valley but another light day for new cases

Ada County reported two new fatalities and Canyon County reported one new death related to the coronavirus on Monday, according to Boise-based Central District Health and Caldwell-based Southwest District Health.

That brings the total death count up to 21 people in Ada County, seven in Canyon County and 70 people across the state who’ve died as a result of the virus.

All three new deaths occurred in people 80 or older, according to Idaho Department of Health and Welfare demographics totals. All but two of Idaho’s deaths have occurred in people 60 or older.

Ada County now has 692 confirmed cases of the virus (5 new) and Canyon County has 254 cases (2 new). Those were the first new cases reported in either county since Friday.

By Monday evening, 23 new cases were confirmed statewide, for a total of 2,074 people in Idaho who had tested positive for the coronavirus, according to the public health districts’ latest data. It was the fourth straight reporting day with fewer than 25 new confirmed cases (statewide data isn’t updated on Sundays).

Twin Falls County had an increase of seven new cases, bringing the total count up to 223 cases confirmed in the county.

The state also reported Monday that an estimated 187 people had “probable cases” of coronavirus and estimated 1,508 people had recovered.

While numbers still trickle in across the state, Gov. Brad Little will hold a press conference Thursday to announce whether the state has met the proper criteria to progress into the second stage of the government’s plan to reopen Idaho.
