Idaho coronavirus: 2 new Nez Perce County deaths, community spread in 2 more counties
Monday’s release of coronavirus data showed two new deaths, 24 new confirmed cases and community transmission identified in two more Idaho counties.
Nez Perce County reported the two deaths Monday, meaning the county has now seen a total of 15 deaths related to the coronavirus and 50 confirmed cases, according to Idaho North Central District public health. Both deaths were women in their 80s.
Bannock and Owyhee counties have confirmed community spread. Community spread or transmission is defined as illness within a community that lacks connection to travel or other confirmed cases. As of Monday, 17 of Idaho’s 44 counties have community spread.
Statewide, 1,793 people have tested positive for the coronavirus.
Ada County saw nine new cases Monday, bringing the county’s total up to 624 people who’ve been confirmed to have the virus, according to Central District Health.
Canyon County reported six new cases, bringing the county count up to 227 cases. Payette County also saw one new case, bringing its count up to 12 people, according to Southwest District Health.
As of Monday, 58 people in Idaho had died due to COVID-19, the disease caused by coronavirus. The new case count is an increase from Sunday, when the state was reporting 1,769 confirmed cases of coronavirus. Gov. Brad Little’s stay-home order will expire April 30 and the state plans to begin reopening the state in phases.
The state also reported that through Monday 172 people had been hospitalized, 73 had been admitted to an intensive care unit and 1,039 people were believed to have recovered from the virus.
As of Monday, 239 of the coronavirus cases in the state were health care workers, according to the state.
Idaho has community spread in 17 counties: Ada, Bannock, Bingham, Blaine, Bonneville, Canyon, Elmore, Gem, Jefferson, Jerome, Kootenai, Lemhi, Owyhee, Madison, Payette, Teton and Twin Falls.
