Idaho’s coronavirus death toll reaches 24 as total confirmed cases crest 1,350
Editor’s note: The case numbers for Ada County were updated after Central District Health corrected an error in its data.
For the second straight day, five new deaths due to the coronavirus were confirmed Thursday in Idaho, according to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare.
Nez Perce County reported three additional deaths for a total of five, while Jerome and Canyon counties each announced one new death.
Idaho’s statewide total stands at 24 deaths based on information gathered by the Idaho Statesman from the individual health districts. Deaths from COVID-19 have been reported in Ada, Blaine, Canyon, Cassia, Jerome, Nez Perce and Twin Falls counties.
All five Nez Perce deaths were individuals over the age of 50. Four were male and one female, according to Idaho North Central District. Case-specific information for the deaths in Canyon and Jerome counties were not provided by Southwest District Health or South Central Public Health District, respectively.

BEHIND THE STORY
MOREWhy our case numbers might differ from the state's
The Idaho Statesman is tabulating confirmed coronavirus cases from Idaho’s seven health districts as they’re reported. The health districts report cases on their own schedules — some issue press releases, some simply update totals on their websites. And the reports happen at various times throughout the day.
The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, meanwhile, updates its statewide numbers once a day at about 5 p.m. Its numbers only include the cases the health districts have reported directly to the department. In some cases, health districts have reported cases publicly but not to the department by the daily deadline.
We break out each day’s new cases by county and provide details on each case when available here.
