Ada, Blaine near 200 coronavirus cases each as Idaho’s total climbs to 524, with 9 deaths
As the state’s confirmed coronavirus cases and deaths continue to rise, Central District Health is asking Idahoans for more personal accountability.
There were 524 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Gem State as of Tuesday evening, an increase of 91 cases in the past 24 hours. On Monday, Idaho saw its largest increase, adding 112 in a single day.
“CDH strongly urges everyone to consider how they can become even more accountable during the statewide stay-at-home order to increase effectiveness on slowing down the spread of COVID-19,” a CDH press release read. “Communities like Seattle are beginning to see progress from consistent efforts like isolation and physical distancing. Help our community become a success story.”
The district, which includes Boise, emphasized that each time you are in a public place, you risk exposure to COVID-19.
“Through CDH investigations, we have learned many individuals have mild symptoms, especially early in the course of their illness,” CDH said. “Without taking precautions to stay at home, people who are infectious could be unintentionally exposing others.”
On Tuesday, Blaine County added 44 new coronavirus cases for a total of 192, while Ada increased by 30 cases to 193. The two counties currently account for 73.5% of the state’s total.
BEHIND THE STORY
MOREWhy our case numbers might differ from the state's
The Idaho Statesman is tabulating confirmed coronavirus cases from Idaho’s seven health districts as they’re reported. The health districts report cases on their own schedules — some issue press releases, some simply update totals on their websites. And the reports happen at various times throughout the day.
The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, meanwhile, updates its statewide numbers once a day at about 5 p.m. Its numbers only include the cases the health districts have reported directly to the department. In some cases, health districts have reported cases publicly but not to the department by the daily deadline.
We break out each day’s new cases by county and provide details on each case when available here.
Nez Perce County reported a second death resulting from the coronavirus Tuesday, according to Idaho North Central District Health. Health officials have reported nine deaths in the state connected to COVID-19 between Ada, Canyon, Blaine, Cassia and Nez Perce counties.
Two counties confirmed their first cases of coronavirus on Tuesday: Adams and Camas.
Southwest District Health said an Adams County man in his 60s is recovering well at home. The source of his transmission is still under investigation, according to the health district. The Camas County case is an adult female who had traveled to an area with community spread, according to the South Central Public Health District. The individual was not hospitalized and is recovering at home with “mild symptoms.”
Cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in 27 of Idaho’s 44 counties: Ada, Adams, Bannock, Bingham, Blaine, Bonner, Bonneville, Camas, Canyon, Cassia, Custer, Elmore, Fremont, Gem, Idaho, Jefferson, Jerome, Kootenai, Lincoln, Madison, Minidoka, Nez Perce, Owyhee, Payette, Teton, Twin Falls and Valley.
Health and Welfare reported 6,601 tests had been completed statewide at the end of the day Tuesday. About 7.9% have been positive for COVID-19. The number of health care workers who have tested positive for coronavirus increased to 33, up from 25 on Monday, according to IDHW.
