This national bookstore chain is opening a new store in Meridian. Here’s when

While a handful of big-box retailers in the Boise area have closed this year, such as Joann, Kohl’s and Big Lots, another is expanding. It’s welcome news for readers.

Book-selling chain Barnes & Noble is just weeks away from opening a new store on the north side of the Village at Meridian, according to signs outside the cordoned-off entrance that say “coming soon” and “opening summer 2025.”

The 20,000-square-foot space is sandwiched between a Michaels craft store and a soon-to-be Nordstrom Rack, which signs say is coming this fall.

The Barnes & Noble location, at 2260 N. Eagle Road, Suite 100, used to be a Gordmans department store. The store closed in 2020 after its parent company filed for bankruptcy, a familiar story for retailers across the country. The space has undergone a $458,950 renovation, according to a permit application filed with the city of Meridian in November.

The permit said the bookstore would include a “coffee cafe.” Most Barnes & Noble locations have a namesake cafe that serves Starbucks coffee and other beverages.

The latest permit submitted for the store, on Aug. 4, was to “install illuminated letterset on storefront.”

Barnes & Noble has one other store in the Treasure Valley, on North Milwaukee Street in West Boise. The new Meridian location is across the street from Half Price Books, a secondhand bookstore, and less than a mile from Seagull Book, which sells faith-based, Latter-day Saints books.

Barnes & Noble did not immediately respond to a request for comment for this story. The company previously told the Idaho Statesman that the Boise store would continue operating as usual.
