ICCU members report frustration, lack of communication amid 13-hour outage

Idaho Central Credit Union’s banking services were unavailable for about 13 hours ending Thursday morning.

Members reported being unable to access their accounts, view balances, withdraw cash, transfer money or use their debit cards. One member told the Idaho Statesman by email that staff at a local bank branch in Boise were also unable to complete any transactions.

ICCU told the Idaho Statesman by email that the disruption began at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday and was largely resolved by 10:30 a.m. Thursday. It said the outage was caused by an internal technical issue.

“Member funds remain safe and secure,” ICCU said in a statement. “We understand that service interruptions can be frustrating, and ICCU takes its responsibility to communicate with members seriously. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate our members’ patience as our IT teams worked swiftly to resolve the issue.”

The disruption primarily affected access to online and mobile banking platforms, including functions such as viewing account balances, transferring funds and accessing transaction history, according to ICCU.

The credit union said in the statement that updates were shared as they became available via eBranch messaging and on Facebook.

“Went to get groceries this morning and my card wouldn’t run,” one user posted Thursday morning in the r/Boise community on Reddit. “The lack of any communication on their part is irritating.”

ICCU said that members may still experience intermittent connectivity issues because of increased traffic to their banking services. If so, it advised to wait a few minutes and try again. The credit union also said members should be aware that some deposits or withdrawals may be delayed as its system catches up.

If you need assistance, consider contacting ICCU by phone at 1-800-456-5067, video chat or by visiting a local branch.

“We expect the situation to be fully resolved by end of day,” ICCU told the Statesman.
