Kohl’s closing at Boise Towne Square is imminent. What we know about the final days

One of the anchor department stores at the Boise Towne Square mall plans to close by the end of the month.

Kohl’s announced it would shutter the location at 400 N. Milwaukee St. and dozens of other “underperforming” stores nationwide in January in a bid to stave off bankruptcy. The Boise store’s last day of business will be Saturday, according to its website.

All remaining inventory is now 90% off, a store employee told the Idaho Statesman on Monday. Everything that’s left, which isn’t much, is shelved by the upstairs entrance. The downstairs entrance is closed.

The ground-floor entrance to Kohl’s inside Boise Towne Square is closed, with signs directing people to the second-floor entrance during the mall anchor store’s final few days in business.

Until it closes, the store is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“As we continue to build on our long-term growth strategy, it is important that we also take difficult but necessary actions to support the health and future of our business for our customers and our teams,” CEO Tom Kingsbury said in a prior news release.

The department store chain has been grappling with a continued downturn in sales. It has over 1,150 locations.

Kohl’s has two other stores in the Treasure Valley, at 3275 N. Eagle Road in Meridian and at 16566 N. Marketplace Blvd. in Nampa, according to its store locator. Those stores remain open.

Stores in Twin Falls, Coeur d’Alene and Ammon near Idaho Falls remain open too.
