A big tech company announced it is laying off 715 employees — some at its Idaho offices
TurboTax-maker Intuit, with an office in Eagle, announced Monday that it will lay off 715 employees.
In an note to employees, CEO Sasan Goodarzi wrote that the changes are part of an effort to pivot toward artificial intelligence.
“We are building on our momentum and re-balancing investments that will empower us to lead in a changing world,” Goodarzi wrote.
Intuit spokeswoman Karen Nolan declined to comment on the number of employees laid off at the company’s offices in Eagle.
As part of the company’s shift, it also said it will plan to add more than 700 roles in “strategic areas.” The company, based in Mountain View, California, employees about 9,000 people worldwide.
Those losing their jobs will receive a minimum of four weeks of pay, plus two additional weeks for every year of service, as well as four months of health insurance coverage, Goodarzi wrote in the letter.
In 2017, Intuit bought the Eagle-based time-sheet firm TSheets, which was co-founded by Matt Rissell in 2006. When it was sold, TSheets employed 260 people, and it has added more than 160 positions since.
In October 2019, Intuit said it would add a new building at its Eagle campus at 235 E. Colchester Drive, off Eagle Road and Chinden Boulevard, and more than double its workforce there.
The building is expected to be completed by early 2021, the Statesman previously reported.
