Idaho 21 is temporarily back open this weekend after a rockslide closed a 21-mile section of the state highway near Stanley last week.

The Idaho Transportation Department announced that Idaho 21 reopened Friday at 5 p.m. and will stay open through the weekend with reduced lanes and safety measures in place.

Idaho 21 will close again starting Monday at 8 a.m. for additional rock scaling.

The department closed the highway Dec. 9 from about Sourdough Lodge in Lowman to Banner Summit, according to an ITD news release.

“Crews are at the site of the slide assessing conditions and damage and preparing a plan for cleanup,” ITD said. Drivers can find the latest updates on closures and delays on the Idaho 511 website.

The department said it did not know when the roadway would be ready for reopening.
