‘Same good cookin’’ at The Griddle, reopened at a new Meridian location
If you’re craving that favorite breakfast from The Griddle “on Overland,” don’t worry or get confused. It’s just no longer on Overland Road.
The very first Idaho restaurant for what has become a Treasure Valley staple has a new home just down the street.
The Griddle last year announced its plan to move the 2310 E. Overland Road location, which opened two decades ago, to a nearby spot. The new restaurant sits at 1181 S. Silverstone Way, just over a mile from the previous location.
The breakfast-and-lunch business, which specializes in traditional dishes and comfort foods, also has a Boise location, on East Parkcenter Boulevard, as well as several others.
While saying goodbye to its original Idaho store may have been difficult, married owners Ashley Ferguson and David Aboud previously told the Idaho Statesman that the move came after issues arose with the property owner.
“It just seemed like the best thing to do was make a move now instead of being in this same position in five years,” Ferguson said.
The Griddle announced last year that it would make the move sometime in 2026. In early May the restaurant posted on Facebook that May 10, Mother’s Day, would be its last day of operation “on Overland.” The Griddle then announced May 27 as the opening for the new eatery.
The Griddle’s owners said online that the new space marked the beginning of a new chapter.
“Same homemade favorites. Same friendly faces. Same good cookin’. Just a beautiful new place to gather, eat, laugh, and make memories together,” the restaurant said in a post.
The new space still has those light yellow walls, green chairs and funky decorations customers know and love. A new addition is plenty of patio space, which the old location lacked. The owners also said parking is now easier.
“We designed this space to be warm, welcoming, and the perfect place to enjoy breakfast with family and friends,” The Griddle said on Facebook.
The Griddle was founded in 1948 in Winnemucca, Nevada. Aboud’s parents purchased the business from its original owners in 1960, and Aboud eventually became the owner in the late 1980s. When Aboud and Ferguson moved to Meridian, they brought The Griddle’s brand with them, opening the Overland Road location in 2007, according to previous Statesman reporting.
The Griddle now has seven locations, six of which are in Idaho: two in Meridian, and one apiece in Boise, Nampa, Eagle and Caldwell. The chain is planning to expand further in Idaho, perhaps to Twin Falls and a second Boise spot in the next year or so, the owner previously told the Statesman.
