Don’t believe Google and Yelp. This local Nampa restaurant has closed — already

When Chicken Out debuted last October at Canyon Crossing strip mall in Nampa, it promised a “flavor-packed rotisserie” that would bring “family and friends together to enjoy a delicious meal.”

Now it’s quietly flown the coop.

Despite Yelp and Google pages claiming it’s still open — and a live website — the poultry-loving restaurant at 9805 W. Sand Hill Drive has closed.

The sign on the building’s exterior has been replaced by a banner from fellow local Mexican brand El Semáforo, which specializes in tacos and birria dishes. El Semáforo already runs a brick-and-mortar, Birreria El Semáforo, at 5830 E. Franklin Road, along with a food truck, Tacos el Semáforo.

The new location — branded El Semáforo Taqueria & Birreria — will open on Wednesday, May 5, founder and co-owner Fernando Mora said. He started working on the necessary permitting weeks in advance to make the transition into the space move quickly after Chicken Out closed, he said.

When it appeared last fall, Chicken Out felt like it had promise. It definitely had more than just rotisserie chicken. Its most recent Facebook post in late April, in all caps, advertised “TACOS, QUESABIRRIAS, TORTAS, BURRITOS, FLAUTITAS, GRILLED CHICKEN, CARNE ASADA, FAJITAS, BBQ HABANERO WINGS, BUFFALO WINGS, COLD BEER and MORE.”

Apparently, it wasn’t enough. Chicken Out’s final rating on Yelp? 3 out of 5 stars. On Google? 4.2 out of 5.

Birreria El Semáforo is rated 4.8 out of 5 stars on Yelp and on Google. El Semáforo’s new Canyon Crossing location plans to be open from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. opening day — and seven days a week, Mora said, assuming business warrants it.
