New restaurant opens this weekend where longtime Boise eatery was forced out

Start tuning up those chopsticks skills.

A recently closed Asian restaurant with a lengthy Boise history will start a new chapter this weekend — as another Asian restaurant.

VietFood will open officially at 11 a.m. Saturday at 8630 W. Overland Road, according to fliers in the window. That’s the former home of Lucky Palace Chinese restaurant, which closed in August.

Serving authentic Vietnamese food — “pho, broken rice, banh mi and more,” according to its social media — VietFood will unveil a grand opening featuring various specials. The first 50 customers get free dessert. A drawing will be held for gift cards, free food and special discounts through the end of December. And all patrons get 15% off orders through Dec. 9.

VietFood’s menu, including prices, is posted at vietfoodus.com. In addition to traditional seated dining, the restaurant will offer online ordering for takeout or delivery, according to its website.

Lucky Palace closed this summer after its owner told the Idaho Statesman that he was not given the opportunity to renew the lease. That restaurant had operated for more than 17 years, he said.

Taking over the space, VietFood quickly could find a niche in a city not exactly overflowing with Vietnamese restaurants. Especially if its food truly is — as it promises — “made from scratch with love.”

VietFood isn’t open yet. But if you peek through the window, you’ll see that it’s ready.
